A visit to Rome will reveal that Romans had communal toilets which comprised a long stone bench with openings that accommodated the posterior and provided an opening in the bench which is identical to that which can be found on most public seats today.
However, I am not going to copy the ancient Romans and use the toilets in the picture because the RCMP are just across the road.
