It begins…..mandatory masks at WALMART

August 6, 2020, 11:40 am

As of Wednesday, Aug. 12, masks will be mandatory for customers of all Walmart locations across Canada.

Felicia Fefer, manager of corporate affairs for Walmart Canada, confirmed in an email statement that this requirement will now apply to customers and workers at all locations where a government mandate to wear a face covering isn’t already in place.

She said more than 60 per cent of Walmart’s 400 stores in Canada already have some form of a government mandate on face coverings.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry has not yet imposed a B.C.-wide mandatory mask requirement in public places, although a number of other Canadian jurisdictions have done so.

Crews are are battling a wildfire just north of the Penticton today and people are being evacuated from their homes.

The Penticton Fire Department was called just after 8 a.m. today to the blaze just north of the city in the Sage Mesa area. Visible flame and smoke can be seen.

B.C. Wildfire Service fire information officer Madison Smith says an initial wildfire attack crew and three helicopters are actioning the one hectare blaze, which is out of control.

A tactical evacuation of homes in the area is underway due to the immediate danger to life and an emergency reception centre has been set up at 199 Ellis St. across from Cannery Brewing in Penticton, according to media release from the regional district’s emergency operations centre.

Father tells daughter – ” I’m sorry ” – receives jail sentence for molesting her

August 6, 2020, 5:51 am

Penticton – A man was sentenced yesterday to 15 months in jail for molesting his 13-year-old daughter in connection with a June – 2019 incident at a campground near Oliver.

The girl told police her dad drank approximately 30 beers and moonshine, plus he smoked marijuana.

Both were using the same tent for camping.

She woke up to find her dad touching her inappropriately. She pretended to be asleep and later tried to move away, but was unable to deter him. She estimated the incident lasted about 30 minutes.

The girl disclosed the incident the next day to a social worker and her school principal.

Defence counsel James Pennington said his client still can’t remember what happened, but nonetheless accepts what he did was wrong.

“Alcohol consumption is not a defence, it’s not an excuse and he certainly doesn’t intend it that way,” said Pennington.

Name of the man sentenced can be published to protect the 13 year old

– “To my daughter, I say I’m sorry. I never meant for this to happen. I’m sorry.”

Once finished his jail sentence, the man will be bound by a three-year probation order, a ban from having any contact with his daughter. Also banned for five years from visiting pools, parks and other places children under 16 may be present, and he can’t hold any positions of trust over young people.

And for the next 20 years, he will be included in the national sex offender registry.
