Sunday party – 1924 style… and its free

October 23, 2019, 5:34 pm

Party like it’s 1924 at the Oliver Museum

Oliver, BC – In 21st century Canada, Halloween means costumes, trick-or-treating, and lots of candy. But what was Halloween like a century ago?

The BC Provincial Police Station (now the Oliver Museum) was built in 1924. What costumes did the people of Oliver wear that year? What did they do to celebrate? The Oliver & District Heritage Society is here to answer that question! Hint: there was a lot of orange and black. Put on your costume and join us in celebrating Halloween while we take a trip back in time.

This 1924- style Halloween party will take place on Sunday, October 27th from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm at the Oliver Museum (474 School Avenue). Try your hand at actual 1920s Halloween games and activities such as paper hat-making, ghost stories, fortune-telling, and more.

This event is free and suitable for all ages. Don’t forget to visit our costume photographer to have your picture or your child’s picture taken in costume, enter a draw to win a door prize, and enjoy Halloween treats while you take in the decorations of 1924.

Results: 1.6 million visits so far this year

October 23, 2019, 10:59 am

Every once in a while I say ” hey dawg what’s happening ”  – lol

Well I can tell you two things:

1. I have two machines that watch the data: WordPress – the format of the website ……..and my host A2 but computed by AW stats

did you know that since Jan 1st – we have had 200 thousand unique computers and visits by those at 1.6 million

maybe that does not register to the average reader but paid advertising is  seen

when so many people want access (free advertising) I hear that
when so many businesses want to pay for advertising I hear that

2. They would not pay without a reason and it is NOT the stats – it is the results.

3. The one you turn to…… look at the graphic

Celebrate a de-construction

October 23, 2019, 6:53 am

Small Wheels Park project drawing

Five buses full of BCAA officials and employees arrived Tuesday to celebrate a new small wheels feature at Lion’s Park.

The community of Oliver was invited to come down, join in and celebrate “demolition day” at the Small Wheels park.

Oliver Parks and Recreation says the revitalized skateboard park project will start construction this week.

The park is being funded by a $100,000 grant from BCAA’s ‘Play Here’ contest, support from the RDOS and local Kiwanis Club.

BCAA brought many of it’s employees to Oliver Tuesday for a skatepark-breaking ceremony. The BCAA annual meeting and convention was being held this week in Osoyoos.

“We invite local dignitaries, funding partners and members of the community to join us at the ground-breaking to celebrate,” Oliver Parks and Recreation said.

Those that attended the ceremony invited to a celebratory luncheon at the Community Hall.
