Windy day – grass fire north of Oliver

Passersby put out a small grass fire – north of McIntrye Bluff this afternoon at about 2 o’clock.

This picture from Carrie and Lloyd Cooper who were passing the area when they spotted a small blaze to the north of the highway.

Members of the Oliver Fire Department called to ensure hot spots put out and the fire did not spread.

First hand report from Carrie Cooper:  Lloyd and myself and one of his workers came around corner and saw smoke and flames. We pulled over and grabbed shovels and started throwing dirt, numerous people stopped and I handed out more shovels ( was 2 seperate fires about 200 meters from one another! )

Must have been from spark from cigarette! I called 911 and then continued with everyone fighting the fire. All 9-10 people who helped deserve a thanks! People were wearing sandles!

ODN says thanks to the Coopers and all those that helped.
