Picture shows new street name north of town in rural district. Recently one of the people noticed on their water bill that two addressses were used:
Douglas Maple Rd and Nettles Rd. – Residents don’t like either and want a say in the matter. No comment from the Regional District.
Avenue could be Rattray Rd, Cachola Crescent – any number of things but I think it is too late…. but maybe the confusion on the water bill can be cleared up.

Despite numerous requests of City Hall, our street address on Google Maps still hasn’t been corrected. We were told – “we are on it”. Sad, sad, sad.
Never mind the confusion of new street names – how about Olivers road map having the print upside down?? To a stranger which side of the river is the town on??
One helpful suggestion would be to pick up the free maps with the new street addresses from the Oliver Tourist Center in the old train station. We have one in each car and one for the house – they are invaluable while we become used to the new street names.
Dan, just wait for the complaints if you try and change the system again!!!
There just may well be a silent majority who liked the change!
I can give some wicked examples of lost persons and cars with the previous system. We resorted to meeting visitors downtown and escorting them to our home for years.
I for one rather enjoy the new names and this is the third time around for me, but we do need updated maps and a little more effort !
What’s in a name? Nothing if you don’t have a map to go with it. Wonder when they will show up at the fire hall?
If enough people hate this system, are struggling and find it confusing, recognize there is no reason to it and know it will never again be easy to find their way, how about we the public raise 60 grand and get it changed back. We need to do this before the individual expense to each tax payer of changing personal info. Just a thought.
Went looking for an addess with dear hubby and soon became lost. It seems the new address used to have the same name attached to it in another part of town, so we ended up 3 miles from our destination. I guess now the tax payers will all have to purchase GPS systems , wonder if they would be tax deducable under the circumstances?
Goes to show the people of Oliver and area that changing the old system to this unwanted confusing garble was definetly the blunder of the decade.
Hate to say “I told you so”….but…$40,000+ well wasted.
Nice name, “Nettle”, who thought that one up?
It doesn’t matter if people can find their way around or not, just so long as the little metal sign looks nice atop the pole. Oliver über alles!!
Current addresses from guests from out of town, totally confused about the new addresses, lost and confused, were using GPS, had to phone at least 4 times to find us. What a mess.
We had a similar problem with one of our properties……the utility bill from RDOS had a house number on Hwy 97 but the water bill from the town had the same property with a different house number and on Rd 6.
Apparently we had 2 civic addresses for 1 lot?
Anyways, all sorted out now but it is interesting what is popping up with all the street name changes etc
