The progression toward the October legalization date is awkward to say the least. Everyone is excited, the promise of the illegal trade being taken out of the game is just that a promise.
See the slow transition is quite deceitful in my mind. Yes people will be granted permission to grow a small amount for their use. Nice gesture but it comes with what is behind door number three as it were.
What is happening is government through legislation is steering the production into the realm of big companies and established manufacturers. The licensing and sale will be in the hands of larger commercial interests and the little guys will likely be pushed aside. It will come with other strings too.
The quality and strength of the product will be regulated and the hope is to squeeze out the BC Bud hard core producers.
This is my opinion when I say “Government planners and the companies have been smoking something other than the plant of reason” if the quality isn’t there the steady customers will flirt with the commercial enterprises and then move on. The hard core or shady growers will leave the domestic market until the customers come back for strength of quality reasons, The real market the export market will still be there for BC Bud.
It will remain the sought after product and it will become even more expensive for that sector of the market.
In the past decades the police used aircraft, squealers, Hydro Meters and anything else they could dream of the illicit market is still there. We will see a domestic market for recreational use but that will level off in my opinion.
This whole enterprise will have winners and losers and the little guys might well emerge after a time when the big money interests can’t provide what the market is looking for that being the more powerful production of the illicit product.
Here is a simple comparison try a bottle of American beer, Now a bottle of Canadian beer. I rest my case. People will go to what they know. A cheaper brand of less quality will not cut it long term. The illicit producers will sell to foreign buyers and the promise of big money for the legal operations and corporations will butt itself out.
