Thanks Jeannette for your comment the wineries in our area contribute huge to local events. I chair the local ducks unlimited dinner hear without our wineries and all our business community I could not run a dinner fundraising event thank you to all our business generosity

Wineries participate oodles in our local community, in numerous ways.

These businesses make countless donations to dozens of local non-profit fundraising efforts, annually. These are not “extra” items (wine, vacation packages, etc) they provide to auction – it’s a piece of the bottom line, every time. Many aren’t large corporate monoliths; they are family owned, run by folks who live and work in the community. They’re in the business of farming, maybe with a rather elegant product and pretty room to buy the end product in.

Let’s remain mindful of how we can each help support and grow our community together, collaboratively.

I totally agree with Norma that wineries, or their associations like the Oliver-Osoyoos Wineries Association (Oowa), should be a part of this community-oriented parade next year in some capacity. Wineries are a big part of the economy here and that should be celebrated.

I would like to add my thanks to all of the people in the hi-vis vests helping direct traffic around the parade. They put up with a lot of abuse from irrational driviers who were apparently unhappy about a small detour.

I was in the parade with the Oliver Arts Council behind a children’s dance group who were having a great time. However, I did notice that there were a lot of cars driving through the parade route, especially on the lower section where a car sped right past the dancers. And then walking with my kids past the detour road block at 97 and Similkameen after the parade has past, we were treated to driver’s shouting abuse at the person directing traffic! I haven’t seen so many rude drivers since I lived in Vancouver! Why weren’t police manning the detours like I’ve seen them done in the past? Those same motorists would not likely have shouted obsenities at an officer with a gun. Locals or tourists, you should be ashamed of yourself for that.

Carol at Parks & Rec and all the people who helped did a great job this year on the Parade and the Fair. How come the Wineries do not particpate in the parade the people of Oliver support them by taking friends on wine tours they should give back to the town and support this main event ?
