Seeing
Seeing is different than looking. ‘look here and see this’ To see is to be deliberate whereas if I am just ‘looking around’ I am not expecting anything specific, just kind of floating through. Two people stand to wait for the light and then as they cross the street one asks the other ‘did you see the xyz?’ “no, where?”. Also, ‘I can see that you are going to be abc’, a prediction. Interesting this seeing thing
There was a UTube video going around where we were asked how many times a white ball is passed among a group of people. I counted and missed one, but they said there was a person dressed as a bear dancing and waving in there too. NO, I said, but sure enough on a second look, there was the bear. What am I missing in life because I don’t see it, because I am not looking for it?. How can I see what I want to see?
I am walking down the Mall, the Eaton Center, displays, kiosks, signs, benches, people galore and when out the other end (about two blocks) how is it that I can’t describe even 2% of it? So how did I navigate the route? As Catherine pointed out, I must have ‘seen’ what I needed to see and in this case it was what I needed in my subconscious so I could walk the Mall, no conscious seeing needed so it shut down. Wow?
I see that Charlie is really going to work out (or not). I see a bright future. I see what it was that got us here. What kind of seeing are these? How does one do the looking part when seeing like this? And when it comes to the reliability of conclusions taken from ‘seeing’ how reliable are these compared to the other kind? It seems that one can ‘see’ in the intangible realm. What makes any kind of seeing reliable?
So… to see is a deliberate thing to do and the level, depth of seeing is also deliberate. We are fooling ourselves to think we see all that is. The reason for deciding to see can change what in fact we do see. With that I’ll see you later and leave you with this.
