The Integrated Land Management Bureau (ILMB) of the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations (MFLNRO) has received an application for a Crown land application for intensive agricultural purposes. Specifically, “this is an application for a Crown land tenure for Intensive Agriculture purposes, in the vicinity of Oliver over part of the Kettle Valley Railway ( Park Rill and Island Way)
The Crown land parcel consists of an area 15 ha or less for the commercial production of fruits and/or vegetables. If the applicant is granted a Licence over Crown land, the applicant will cultivate the land to grow vegetables (an extension to their existing farmland).”
The actual amount of land under application is stated to be approximately 0.68 hectares (ha), while the proposed term of the lease could be “up to thirty years”.
Administrative Recommendation:
THAT the APC recommends to the RDOS that the subject development application is not supported.
As a result of a discussion Tuesday night – the above recommendation is agreed to. The applicant was not present for the APC meeting.

Is this photo of the KVR right a way correct as marked in yellow. Isn’t the KVR right a way next to the river?
Publisher: No. The KVR right of way is not close to the river in most areas between McAlpine Bridge and Osoyoos Lake.
Well Dave,
“I am pleased that the proposal to use the KVR right of way for agriculture is nixed”
this is real nice when you think of what you said, lets pave the farm land to make a walking path where there is already a very good walking path along the river. So now lets pave the land where a bonifide farmer would be farming the land instead of the overgrown Jungle, yep lets pave the strip so we can all watch it never be used where as it could have been growing food for us all.
Yea, the fun walk is by the river, not by a road I never have had any fun walking along with speeding traffic.
Grand idea Dave and futuristic thinking! Perhaps, some of the funding which has been designated to go elsewhere for paths, could have, or should in the future, go in this direction. It is a great draw for tourists and locals and SO much (as you noted) safer.
What a fun nature walk it would be.
I just looked at the RDOS website parcel maps which shows the KVR right of way intact all the way from Oliver going north, someday this could be a walk cycle path to compliment the nearby river path, lets leave it as KVR and not for other uses. looking at the map, it appears that some of the right of way is being used by adjoining land owners who probably claim that the land is theirs.
While I am on this soapbox, how about a footbridge where the KVR crosses the river just to the south of Vasseau Lake, then we could have a cycle route all the way up the valley without having to use the highway.
I am pleased that the proposal to use the KVR right of way for agriculture is nixed, leave the KVR as a public right of way , next it would be nice to have it upgraded to footpath use instead of an overgrown jungle along there.
