Praying

Found this full grown Ground Mantis crawling on my wall outside. Or at least I think it’s the Okanagan native mantis, Litaneutria minor.

    Yes, I do believe you’re correct, it is the native Ground Mantid of the Okanagan. They usually live in antelope brush or sage, where they blend right in. It seems like he’s a male, as females usually have very short wings and are flightless. They’re great predators of other insects. So if you are so lucky as to find one near your home or garden…keep them around!

    The other mantid found in the Oliver area is the Praying Mantis which is much larger, and green or brown in colour. The Praying Mantis was introduced from Europe.

    We have something similar in our yard the last few years and the kids get so exicited to see them since they are pretty cool insects!

    Haha, maybe time for a real Hotel in Oliver without the creepy crawlers in the beds
