Art or just damage?

The Oliver RCMP has been receiving increased complaints of graffiti showing up in the Community.  On May 30, 2012 two incidents of fresh graffiti were reported in the area of Station Street.  Public assistance is requested in identifying suspects.

Both of these “works” display some talent and the “OTK” signature on both is known to someone or more than one.

The black line in the alley and the Field’s mural shows no talent and no respect. One strategy is to encourage graffiti-art on certain walls but I think that is a bit to organized.

Today while working at the Oliver Visitors Center a couple game in to tell us that there is mobile scooter in the river close to the center we called the police showed them where it was located in the river they told me it was reported stolen from the Oliver Legion a few days ago.when i was leaving the Town crew had pulled it out of the river and was dropping it off at the Legion.
Its nice to see that it will be returned to its owner hope itss in working order.
Why do people steal and damage things that dont belong to them this chair is important to a person which helps them get around and do what they have to live there life. A big thank you to the couple you found it and Shame Shame on the person that stole it.

Posting pics of their vandalism gives them far more publicity than they deserve…

  3. Has anyone heard of fight fire with fire.
I have had a garage door and a side of building in a very “traveled” alley. I paid a couple of taggers to do their work on my door. Since I have never had a problem with graffiti. Does the legion have a problem with theirs?

Remember these are bored kids. Ask the school who these kids are and if you have a high risk environment. PAY them to tag it. You won’t have a problem. Have a look at mine and see what you think.

Tagging, although in some cases artistic, is vandalism regardless. With that said, the city I just moved from, Barrie Ontario, took a rather unique approach to limiting tagging. The city upheld its ban on tagging in all areas, except, the skate park. Kids are free to tag the ramps and concrete structures that they skateboard on. This small easle provided to the kids … drastically reduced tagging on private property. Anyone caught tagging outside that area is given the choice of a vandalism charge or being assigned community service hours which are used for tag removal around the city. Food for thought. Perhaps a place to showcase talent is the answer.

Police on bicycle or foot patrols would go a long way to solving this type of vandalism. So what happened to the two bikes given by a service club (Rotary?) to the RCMP and upgraded to the tune of several hundred dollars from the Town? I have yet to see a Member out on bike patrol even though, when Mayor, I was assured that this was happening.
