Marji on the move!

Marji’s first day of her “Get Motivated for Change” tour.   She ran from Kaledan to Osoyoos except from Vaseau Lake to Oliver when she rode her bike!!  Amazing.  Tomorrow she goes from Osoyoos to Keremeos.

Get motivated says Basso: ‘Collectively as citizens we need to take our hunger and aches of poor governance over the last 11 years and turn it into something positive which is motivation • we need to be motivated to ensure that we get informed of the real issues that plague our communities and our Province • we need to be part of the dialogue to ask questions about process, what is working and what isn’t, and what can be changed • we need be part of a viable solution so make positive changes for ourselves, our neighbours, and our communities so that we can get this beautiful Province back on track. Einstein stated that insanity is when you do the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result – well I say we  have lived through 11 years of insanity, and I say it stops here, officially in May 2013 – we can’t afford it not to.”

Margi has served Oliver well, and she seemed to be on top of many issues. I take issue of course with her comments on bad governance. The state of the BC economy speaks for itself. Is there room for improvement? Of course. There always is.
What I would like to hear from Margi, is what she and her colleagues will do differently than the last NDP administration to prevent the reoccurrence of policies that saw the collapse of the economy and the widespread vacating of the Province, and the plunging of the Province into “have not” status.
We have our “have Province” status back, and I for one would like to keep it.

  2. Jaime Pacheco says:

Yes, Pat, I do devote a lot of effort to my profession. Thank you. My original comment had nothing to do with Miss Basso’s contributions to Oliver, while on Council, but had everything to do with her publicity stunt. She is not running to raise funds or awareness of any myriad of social causes. If she were, I would be supporting her. If she were running solely for her well-being, I would support her. However, this is a publicity stunt aimed at building support for a personal political cause, no more, no less. If this generates enough support to get her elected, great! If not, no harm, no foul. If the story had been of any other politician, local or otherwise, doing a publicity stunt, my comment would have been much the same. So you see, Pat, this is not a “hackneyed slam” against Miss Basso or anyone else who chooses to “step up to the plate.” It is, however, a slam on politicians, incumbent or otherwise, pulling stunts for the sole purpose of getting their picture and name in the news.

I will sit back and see what the rest of the public has to say. Looks like Marji is the going to be real winner in this debate. But I do say one thing, the name calling is very childish and not needed !!

  4. Pat Hampson says:

Marji was a committed Councillor for Oliver and is the NDP candidate for the next provincial election; she stated her commitment and also established her priorities. Her effort to jog and cycle throughout her riding to meet with her supporters and potential supporters is an indication of her commitment. She is demonstrating the energy and enthusiasm required to be an MLA.
Local and provincial government is a demanding and sometimes thankless job and notwithstanding the hackneyed “slams” from those who prefer to criticize rather than “step up to the plate” and try their hand, the majority of politicians want to make a difference for the good of their communities. I assume Mr. Pacheo devotes the same effort to his profession as Marji is demonstrating in her bid to represent her supporters and the NDP in this riding; if so then we will all be well served.

Walt and Jack. Please rest assured that I am neither threatened nor offended by your comments and opinions. As well, you should not be, by mine.

  6. Walt says:

    Thanks Jack.
I do not need to try and explain myself any further, you did it really well !!

  7. Jaime Pacheco says:

Walt, Miss Basso has not been elected to a post, lately, so is wanting to become a politician. The fact that she is running hither and yon does not explain what she intends to do if elected. If not for her personal publicity, I fail to understand this stunt being promoted in this blog.

Publisher: It is the policy of the blog to give publicity to worthwhile endeavors. Everyone has the right to vote for the candidate of their choice in an election. My question would be: when did we have a candidate that is willing to face the public like this one? – If Jaime Pacheco will run from Kaleden to Keremeos – I might vote for him.

I think we could get into a long debate on whether any of the candidates are making clear and concise statements about “what they think” or whether they are treading carefully on the ice. There is one question that we all can agree on. The next election is next year – Tuesday May 14.
