We are Wolf Tree Coffee – a family run coffee roaster here in the beautiful Okanagan Valley. We roast only organic coffees that are fair trade and shade grown whenever possible. We pride ourselves in sourcing the best beans we can find and roasting each coffee to achieve is optimum flavour.
We actually started roasting coffee in 1994 as Okanagan Coffee Roasters, and we will talk more about that in the series of articles we will be contributing to Oliver Daily News.
We’ve always been passionate about our coffee, but we didn’t really know what we were missing until one day on vacation in 1993. We had a WONDERFUL coffee and we were hooked.
We needed to figure out how to get more back home in Oliver. But nothing seemed to cut it. We spent much of the next year learning about coffee, and we came to the conclusion that we were going to have to start roasting our own coffee (even now we are floored to think how we ended up finding a roaster, learning to roast, sourcing and buying green coffee beans…. etc., all without the internet, it would have been so much easier with google, iphones and wifi) so thats what we did. We initially started Okanagan Coffee Roasters with a Probat L5 – it was a beautiful red and chrome coffee roaster, one that even today would be a real “find”. We had no idea that in order to get the best flavours coffee should be consumed within a few weeks of roasting, or that learning to roast coffee didn’t just mean changing the color of the beans. (we purchased numerous books on coffee and roasting, and we learned by ruining more than one or two batches of coffee – luckily the garden didn’t mind that the beans weren’t perfect). We learned alot which only made us realize how much more there was to learn about coffee, and we are still learning.
Long story short, we roasted coffee as Okanagan Coffee Roasters until the early 2000’s and up until May of 2017 we were roasting exclusively for ourselves and friends and family.
We are delighted to be back up and running again, this time with a Diedrich IR7 and our children at the helm – who bring with them their own knowledge and life experiences. We are overwhelmed with the warm welcome we have already received. We are looking forward to serving the Oliver area and delivering freshly roasted to your doorstep on a weekly basis.
