Could the planes place their back-ends to the north or south and not out the gate. You will know what I mean if you do a drive by.
Some clarification: when I drove by the airport gate – the blast of the two engines came directly out the gate and I do know that some residents have commented on the noise when certain planes land and seem to test their engines by positioning the engine so that it blasts right out the public gate where cars and people walk through. Strong smell of fuel as well as the noise.
As I said – just a suggestion.

Scott: this is the “visible” one you saw.
Many pilot spend night in Motels like the Cactus.
They dress more casual so it is not obvious.
Trust me, the aviation community would be happy if technology made aircrafts “stealth” or noiseless.
Maybe one day….
PS: thank you for noticing them!
I agree jack but I have to give you a hard time once in a while just so you know we are watching
I have to agree with stu on this one airports make noise but they bring business to town it is easier and safer for a plane to leave a small airport from a runway facing position than to have your back to it .come on jack plug one ear when driving by .as for daves comment big money bringing companies own airplanes too.
Publisher: Kevin – opinions/hot air are cheap including mine.
Another big twin engine 10 seater landing! Two big planes in five minutes. Grand central or what!
Great forum topic! Thought I’d mention that yesterday I saw two, what I believe to be, Pilots, walking over and getting a room at the Catus Tree Motel! First time I’ve seen that. Sharply dressed, ties, epaulets on the shirts, the whole bit. So, besides the wine tourists or golfers, or what have you, there is business being brought to town. Wow, and as I’m writing this just seen a big yellow search and rescue plane landing! Great job Oliver International Airport ! OVR!
Well if Jack was “not odd” it would only be half as much fun to read ODN so I am all for the “odd guy” makes me smile most mornings when I sip my Latte so thank you Jack.
I have neither time nor inclination to troll. On occasion I am moved to comment on ODN because I have an opinion on the subject at hand.
It has been my position for as long as I can remember that it makes no sense for anybody to put themselves knowingly and willingly in a situation and then complain about it.
Take the new industrial area bylaw … someday someone will build a restaurant (an allowed use, if I understand correctly) in the industrial area and then complain about the smell of the sewage treatment plant or the noise of some industry. I would have the same opinion of their position then as now.
Publisher: So to your analogy – if you drive on a highway and other drivers are driving unsafely – you don’t have the right to complain. Makes no sense. If you are driving on a public street and you get a blast from a turbo prop testing its engine – you have no recourse? Not even to complain?
Here is my point – the local municipal airport is owned by the people. It behooves the avaiation community to make and follow rules that make sense and take the population into consideration. Causing unneccesary noise or disturbances goes along way towards alienating the public in my opinion. The politicians elected to govern must take their instructions from the many not the few.
The restaurant use may not stand the test of time after a public hearing but I think it was suggested as other areas have industrial coffee shops.
I disagree…When people purchase/rent/stroll beside an airport, they should expect to hear airplanes.
Are you expecting the pilot to do a shoulder check, use the rear view mirror, look out the back window, and delay operational necessities until the gawkers are gone?
It reminds me of people who buy near military training areas … and complain of the noise and dust.
Publisher: You are just looking for a fight Stu. It makes me think any legitimate complaint you have on any subject is suspect.
Dave, can you explain your comment of “rich boy toys”?
I wonder if it is ignorance or educated comment on your part.
Brotherly yours!
Publisher: In the instance I am speaking about – ‘rich boy toys’ is not appropriate. The plane was a charter airplane that most likely was bringing in wine tour customers.
The idea of a few people with aircraft using a municipal airport for their own purposes is not new. What is needed is a clear understanding by all concerned of the “rules of the road”. These rules are being considered and implemented in a slow fashion by the owner. Not fast enough in the minds of a few.
I’ll bet the airport was there before the residents …
Publisher: Factual observation Stu but irrelevant to the issue. The issue is operational etiquette.
Thanks for clarifying, Jack – you lovable oddball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Problems with rich boy toys, and that is before the proposed airport expansion
That is the oddest comment I’ve seen on ODN. Can you clarify what is meant by that, Jack?
Publisher: VOH you must not read the blog much. The Publisher often talks to cows on McKinney Road and states that alien debris has landed at the high school.
I think all the staff at the ODN know the Publisher is a tad odd.
Jack: can you elaborate for those who can’t drive by?
Publisher: Blade you must still be far way – to explore strange, new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.”
