CIGV ( Great Valley Radio) sale to Newcap approved by CRTC

Newcap received approval today to acquire the assets of CIGV 100.7 (GIANT FM) in Penticton, B.C. from Great Valley Radio Ltd. for a purchase price of 2 million dollars. No details were released about Newcap’s future plans for the station, but it is widely believed that they will retain the existing Country format. The deal also includes rebroadcasters CIGV-1 98.9 in Keremeos and CIGV-2 98.1 in Princeton.

What a very sad day in Radio History, I feel like my best friend has died. I will no longer be tuning into this station.

I am very disappointed to learn that Dennis Walker, Scott Robinson, et al were fired from CIGV radio. Dennis was the best of the best; Scott also. I will no longer listen to CGIV, as Dennis is no longer there. These people are loved and respected in Penticton and did not deserve to lose their jobs. You, Newcap, will lose many listeners because of your hateful actions.

Come on Rob – I have listened to GiantFM since 2003 – is there another radio station in the area? OK – I am a country fan – but beyond that – 100.7 has the reputation of excellence in profiding the listening (those that listen to the station) with information including news, road conditions, and situations that cover the area from Kelowna to Omak that are current. In 2003 they were the station that covered the fire situation that was current and up to date. What did your Rock station do??

  4. Rob says:

The radio stations in the south okanagan are horrable. Its time for real music… CLASSIC ROCK!!!!!

I’m glad it went to Newcap and not Astral. Should be interesting to have a new player in the market now.
