Tom Boult’s wife’s name was Gwynne Boult. Her Mom was Mrs Rowe whom I worked for at the age of 14. I got most of my education chopping and piling her wood as well as planting flowers in her boulevard. $1.00 per event…adds up. Oh for ‘ The good old days !’
I love these stories. My father worked for Tom Boult in the sports shop(it moved after the fire to the now Royal bank sight),Tom was also brother to my auntie Irene’s husband Uncle Mick(Noel boult).Tom’s wife worked for years @ the variety store, she was the one with the long nails and the rings! Jim Morgan and Bill Simpson were fishing buddies of my Dad’s,I remember them well comng to purchase hand tied flies from us by the dozens.
Thats right Jack. Tom Boult owned the sports shop and Jim Morgan the hardware store. I can’t remember where fire started but we fought it from the outside ( indirectly ). I was a 23 year old upstart fireman ( 2yrs ). Its quite an experience when you are thinking that the whole block could burn. It didn’t. You get used to the feeling. Life Member OFD ( 1967-1997 )
Some history….Valentines Day 1969…fire destroyed Tom’s Sports Shop and Marshall Wells Hardware. Alarm came in at 11pm and was a cold, snowy night. Present day credit Union.
Publisher: Was that Tom Boult? Maybe you could give a bit more detail of the where and the how fought. I must have been away at the time.
